History

Dating back to 1837, the John Deere® company has a long and proud history in America. Started by John Deere himself as a small business in repairs and tool manufacturing, his innovations quickly caught on and became fast sellers. One such innovation, the steel plow, was developed after John cut apart an old saw blade. John Deere would see his company grow exponentially during the next fifty years before his death in 1886, but that was nothing compared to what it would become. 

Starting with their breakthrough into the tractor industry during the early 1900s, John Deere saw huge success across the agricultural product industry as well as expansion into combine harvesters. The second half of the 20th century saw more expansion into international markets and consumer markets, as well as continued innovation in tractor and harvesting equipment. In 1988, John Deere partnered with Hitachi to break into the excavator market, and further acquisitions brought them into the harvesting and forestry equipment markets as well.
