Want your tractor to last longer and perform better? Be sure to keep up with the following essential tractor maintenance tasks.

The Radiator Fluid

When a tractor engine overheats, it can cause serious (and expensive) damage. Avoid this by making sure your equipment has enough radiator fluid. Check this regularly and top off as needed.

The Engine Oil

It's important to inspect your tractor's engine oil, but you don't want to do this on a "cold" engine. Take a few minutes to run the tractor, shut it off for a few minutes, then check the oil. It's time to replace the oil once it gets sludgy or discolored.

The Tires

Improperly inflated tires can cause issues, from compromised fuel efficiency to higher chance of a blowout. Simply use a tire pressure gauge to check the air pressure, then adjust as needed to match the manufacturer's recommendations.

In some cases, it may be wise to change the air pressure to match the given project.

For example:

  • For tilling: Decrease the pressure by a couple of pounds.
  • For loading: Increase the pressure by a couple of pounds.
  • For hauling heavy cargo: Increase the pressure in the rear tires.
